Everythings a REMIX - Kirby Ferguson

Remix: to combine and/or edit existing material to produce something new.
Factors linked with producing a remix include; coping which is to reproduce, knockoffs which is reproducing a worse copy, sampling, copyright which is the laws and legislation when using another artists material and emulation.
Everything is a remix is a theory within postmodern media, and gives the idea that nothing is real. It also suggests there is no one sense of truth with reality as nothing is original anymore.
There are a range of techniques that help us to understand media texts as postmodern:
Bricolage- the process of assembling artefacts from bits and pieces of other things
1) Genre hybridisation; mixing different genres together
2) Recycling old forms; previously used material
3) Mixing high and low culture (kitsch)

Intertexualtiy- the mutliple ways that a text is entangled with or contains references to other texts.

Pastiche- (copying in tribute) and Parody (copying with jest).

Confusions over time and space- the subversion of classical cinematic conventions e.g. fragmented narratives, time bending.

Self reflexiveness / self referentiality- texts that openly reflect upon their own processes of artful composition.

Metafiction- fiction that deals with fiction and its conventions.

Style over content- the image and visual excitement over narrative coherence.

Flattening of affect- technology, violence, drugs and the media lead to detached, emotionless lives.

Altered states- drugs and technology provide a darker gateway to new internal realities.

More human than human- artificial intelligence, robots and cybernetics seek to enhance or replace humanity.
